Accepted. Dogs are descended from wolves, but WHEN and HOW did the wilds predators become man’s best friend?

On Jan. 2010 issue of Discovery Channel Magazine, in its article IT’S A DOG LIFE, researchers provided two facts and one theory on canines’ transformation.

1. Based on the genetics of present-day dogs, the researchers estimate that a group of several hundred wolves were domesticated 10,000 to 15,000 years ago and that all dogs living today are descended from this original cohort.

2. Studies revealed 10 main genetic strains, all of which were present in China south of the Yangtze River, suggesting that this is were dogs originated.

Wolves were attracted to food scraps discarded by formerly nomadic hunter-gatherers who were adapting to life as settled rice farmers. Those wolves that came closest would get most of the food. Those individuals would be the tamest ones, and if this happened generation after generation, then they would have a survival advantage.
